Poetics 2

I selected my topics for my list/catalog poem from the options professor Featherston had on the blackboard. I also thought that it would be great to write a list about the things that make me smile because it is about me and no one knows me better than myself. I thought the most helpful sample poem was the poem that we did as a class and also the poem by David Antin, “A list of the delusions of the insane: What they are afraid of.” It was easier to see what the professor wanted us to do just by looking at the examples. The “object” poem was definitely helpful because it made me try to be more specific about my list. It was pretty challenging because I actually have to be very specific so the readers could picture the lists that make me smile. In the process of writing the List poem, I discovered a bunch of things I like that actually make me smile. I never thought about sitting there listing anything that comes to mind. It was a pretty interesting assignment.
